RIVALRIES FROM THE 1990'S REVISITED

posted 9 Oct 2014, 06:06 by Portaferry GAC Portaferry

This took place on Sunday 30th March 2014. It was a brilliant day in St Patricks Park, Portaferry. Great crowds, great teams and great support to the chosen Charity. A massive thank you to all involved, especially the Antrim men who made the trip and had a great day out. Below are photos of the organisers, a representative from the charity involved - Friends of the Cancer Centre and a representative from Santander, who also donated money to the Charity.

The reason behind this Charity match is that Portaferry and surrounding areas, Ballycran and Ballygalget, have been dreadfully affected by cancer. Marty Mallon (Portaferry), Hugh Gilmore (Ballycran) and Paul Coulter and Conor Watson (Ballygalget) were the main organisers of this brilliant event and they wanted to show the unity, togetherness and support against Cancer from within these communities, who so often over the years have had hard fought battles and matches. There were also many helpers in organising and making the event run so smoothly. Thanks to everyone. A total of £10,076.00 was raised, a fantastic amount.

It is hoped that there will be a return match in North Antrim at the start of next year. Something to look forward to.
